AFA HOUSE, LAKESIDE, ACCRA
The geometric Afa kente pattern, which means “I have taken it.” informs the rhythm of the building’s wall cladding, translating the language of woven fabric into architectural form. The pattern becomes a subtle but powerful identity for the house, reflecting the owners’ work as fashion designers.
The form of the building is organized around a generous compound that creates a partially enclosed courtyard. This arrangement allows the house to feel open while still maintaining privacy and a strong connection to outdoor space.
High ceilings amplify the sense of openness inside, allowing natural light and air to move freely through the rooms. A sunroom extends this relationship between interior and exterior, creating a bright transitional space where sunlight filters in throughout the day.
